Sober Things to Do on the Upper East Side
We did not get sober to stop having fun. Here is how our residents and alumni spend their free time in the neighborhood.

One of the best things about sober living on the Upper East Side is how much there is to do that has nothing to do with a bar. A few favorites from around the house:
Get outside
- Run or walk the Central Park Reservoir loop. About a mile and a half of flat gravel with skyline views, and a great way to start a day.
- Walk the East River Esplanade and Carl Schurz Park. Quieter than Central Park, with river views and benches made for long phone calls.
- Explore the rest of Central Park. The Conservatory Garden, the Ramble and Belvedere Castle are all within reach.
Move
The neighborhood is packed with gyms, boxing studios, yoga and spin. Many residents find a class they love in the first month and it becomes part of their recovery routine. Exercise helps with sleep and mood, both of which take a hit in early recovery.
See something
Museum Mile runs along Fifth Avenue on the Upper East Side, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim. A rainy Sunday at the Met is hard to beat.
Eat and hang out
Coffee shops on every other block, diners, bagels, and plenty of places for a long dinner with friends. Find the spots where nobody blinks when you order a seltzer.
Show up for each other
The best night of the week is still the Wednesday Night Meeting. Residents and alumni gather, someone shares, and then everyone hangs out in the backyard.
