For parents & families

You do not have to figure out what comes next alone.

Treatment is ending, or something has to change. We have been the young adult in this story, and we have sat with many families on the other side of it. Here is how we help.

Before you choose any program

Questions every family should ask

Ask these of us and of anyone else you are considering. A good program will answer every one without hesitation.

  1. Who runs the house day to day, and are they in recovery themselves?
  2. How often do you test, and what kind of test is it?
  3. How and how often will our family hear from you?
  4. Does every resident have a case manager?
  5. What happens if someone relapses?
  6. What does it cost, and what exactly is included?
  7. Is the residence certified by OASAS or NYSARR, or working toward it?
  8. What happens after move-out? Is there an alumni community?
  9. Can we talk to a family whose loved one lived there?
FAQ

Family questions

How often will we hear from Grassroot?

Family communication is scheduled from the start, so you are not left wondering. We agree on the rhythm and the channel with you and your loved one at move-in, within the limits of what they consent to share.

My child is an adult. What can you tell us?

We share what your loved one consents to share, and we encourage that consent because families who are informed can help in the right way. We will talk through privacy openly on the first call.

What if they do not want to go?

That is common. Call us anyway. We can talk with you about how to have the conversation, and our care management and coaching service can support your family even before a move.

Do you work with the treatment center?

Yes. Our case management team coordinates with discharge planners, therapists and psychiatrists so the transition from treatment to sober living is one plan, not two.

Take the first step

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Tell us a little about where you or your person are right now. We will listen, answer every question about the house and the program, and help you decide on the right next step, even if it is not Grassroot.
