Inside Grassroot

What a Wednesday Night Meeting Is Actually Like

It is not a formal event. It is an hour of honesty, a backyard full of people, and the best picture of what Grassroot really is.

People talking in a room before the Wednesday Night Meeting

If you want to understand Grassroot, come on a Wednesday.

Every Wednesday evening, residents, alumni and guests gather at the house. A speaker, chosen by someone on our team, shares for part of the hour. Then the floor opens and anyone can share. Before and after, people hang out in the backyard or catch a game together.

Why it matters

Early recovery can be lonely in a city of eight million people. The Wednesday meeting is the place where a resident in week two sits next to an alumnus with two years, and both of them get something out of it.

It is also how our culture passes down. New residents walk into a room full of people who were exactly where they are, and who are now working, studying, rebuilding relationships and having fun sober. Nobody has to explain that recovery works. They can see it.

What alumni say about it

Alumni keep coming back on Wednesdays long after they move out. Nearly everyone who leaves the house stays connected through our alumni community, and Wednesday is usually how.

Can I come?

The meeting is open to the community by invitation. If you are considering Grassroot, are a family member, or are a clinician who refers clients, reach out and we will tell you more.

Take the first step

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Tell us a little about where you or your person are right now. We will listen, answer every question about the house and the program, and help you decide on the right next step, even if it is not Grassroot.
