Jack Grass was born in New York City. often finding himself in trouble in the classroom but thriving on the field. Sports became his anchor, ultimately earning him a Division I lacrosse scholarship to Johns Hopkins University.

Jack’s struggle with addiction emerged early and eventually cost him the opportunity he had worked so hard for. He first entered treatment as an adolescent and ultimately found lasting sobriety around his twenty first birthday. His recovery not only changed the trajectory of his life but became the foundation of his commitment to helping others.

Today, Jack brings a rare mix of lived experience, emotional insight, and steady presence to the individuals and families he supports. He is driven by the belief that recovery is possible for anyone with the right guidance, accountability, and connection.

His work reflects both the compassion he wished he had at his darkest moments and the hope he now sees in every client’s potential.

JAMES McDERMOTT

James Patrick McDermott II grew up in Bronxville, New York, where he was known for his humor, optimism, and ability to make people feel at ease. Sports were a big part of his life, giving him structure and a place to channel his natural leadership and energy.

During college, James began to struggle with depression and alcoholism. Looking for space and a fresh perspective, he moved to Malta for several years. His time there helped shape his values and reminded him of the importance of connection, family, and finding meaning beyond day-to-day challenges.

Returning home wasn’t easy, and James faced another difficult period with his mental health. With support from Henry and Jack, and through his own commitment to change, he got sober and began rebuilding his life. Over time, he found stability, confidence, and a clearer sense of who he wanted to be.

Today, James brings steadiness, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others feel understood. His experiences give him a deep sense of compassion and a grounded approach that strengthens the work he does every day. His story reflects resilience, but more importantly, the belief that people can grow, reconnect, and create a life they’re proud of.

Joaquin CORR

Joaquin grew up in Bronxville, New York, where he formed a lifelong friendship with the Grass family. Throughout his school years, he faced academic challenges and later developed issues with alcoholism and addiction. Despite those struggles, Joaquin pushed forward and ultimately graduated from Fordham University, an accomplishment that marked a major turning point in his life.

Before joining the Grassroot team, Joaquin worked in commercial real estate. As he continued to build a strong foundation in his own recovery, Henry and Jack saw in him the same qualities they value most in their work: integrity, relatability, and a deep understanding of what people in early recovery truly need. They brought him onto the team not only because of their long history together, but because Joaquin embodies honesty, perseverance, and compassion that define the culture of their work.

Today, Joaquin uses his lived experience and steady presence to support individuals and families as they navigate their own challenges. His journey from struggle to stability informs the care, patience, and grounded energy he brings to every person he works with.
